The petitions stole my Mom

My mom has been working on "grading petitions" for the last three weeks, so my dad and I have been spending a lot of quality time together. We play catch, go to the park, and wrestle in the living room (shh... don't tell my mom, but he's training me to join the WWF!). Playing with my dad comes at a cost, though. He's exhausted!

My dad and I take lots of naps on the couch, and I figured out that my dad makes a great couch cushion. Sometimes he wiggles and makes funny breathing sounds, but he's still super fun to cuddle with.

Mom, when will you be done with your "petitions"? I miss your cuddles!

Graduation Party in PA

I met my mom’s entire family this past weekend. It was Renee's sister Emily’s H.S. graduation party, so we traveled two hours to Pennsylvania to celebrate. I ran around the yard, licked as many faces as possible, and stole a botchy ball from the boys. Then we played keep away, which is one of my favorite games because I love playing chase. I, of course, was too quick for them. They started yelling and told me to give it back, but I won them over with lots of wet kisses. I was so excited to go swimming because my mom’s grandparents have a big in-ground pool, but everyone said “no.” Their loss - I was going to show them my world-class doggie paddle.

Videos of Baby Laila

A few of my favorite baby-Laila videos.

Laila and the Paper-Towel Roll
I admit I was far too lenient when Laila was a puppy, but she was just too darn cute!

A Star is Born
Does Laila love cameras? "Uh-huh!"

Honfest

Today, my crazy parents Renee and Jeff decided to venture out into the heat to attend the annual Honfest with a few of Renee's friends from Legal Aid. Thankfully, they let me stay home in the air conditioning -- it was nearly one hundred degrees and humid outside.

Beginning as a tiny Baltimore's Best Hon pageant behind Café Hon, Honfest has grown to a nationally recognized festival that covers four city blocks on Hampden's very own 36th Street.

The term Hon is actually a friendly Baltimore greeting and comes from the word honey. Around here, however, the women who vie to become Baltimore’s Best Hon are a vision of the sixties-era. They are women with beehive hairdos, bright-blue eye shadow, spandex pants and anything with leopard print!

Women got their hair put up into a beehive.

Kids got their face and/or hair painted.

Girls' Winning Weekend

I had a fun "girls' weekend" with Melissa, Kayla and Hannah. We took a road trip to some place called New Castle in Western Pennsylvania. It was so much fun! We had a sleep-over, and I stayed in my first hotel ever! I was so excited that I didn't want anyone to sleep - I wanted to have a pajama party, tell ghost stories, and eat ice cream out of the carton. I mean, isn't that what you're supposed to do on a girls' night sleepover? Melissa kept telling me to go to sleep, but I really didn't want to, so I tried to instigate trouble by bothering Hannah. Eventually I got upset that noone would play, so I fell asleep in a huff.

On Sunday, we woke up bright and early and went to a big party. I think there were at least a trillion different kinds of dogs there! I kept trying to figure out whose birthday it was - why else would there be so many people? There were a bunch of rings, though, which was weird. And people were walking their dogs around the rings in circles. I don't know how they didn't get dizzy!

Then, Melissa told me it was our turn. For what? Hitting the pinata? I was excited until she put a show lead on me and took me into one of the rings. Hmmm... what is going on? We went around the ring and Melissa gave me all sorts of yummy treats! Then the nice judge told me I was pretty and gave me a prize! So, what you're telling me is that I walk in a circle, get yummy treats, stand and get petted by a judge, and walk in a circle again - and I get a prize! Sign me up!

Melissa took me into a ring later, and we did the same thing!

Melissa was excited and said "you won!" What did I win? A cupcake? I really hope so! Lots of people congratulated Melissa and told her that I was very pretty. I heard someone say something about my being "Winners Bitch" - how rude! But, they said that it was a good thing, and that Hannah had won too!

Apparently, I won 2 POINTS towards my AKC Championship!!
.

After all of the excitement, Hannah and I napped the rest of the afternoon.
