Prayers for my friend Wrigby

This morning, I found out that one of my good park friends Wrigby (20 month-old boxer) is very sick. He contracted spinal meningitis two weeks ago and had to undergo an emergency spinal surgery to save his life. The doctors said that he's out of danger, but he's still not doing well. Although he regained slight movement in his front legs, he still can't move his back legs at all. The doctors don't know if he will ever be able to walk again, but I really hope that he can. Right now, all he can do is scoot around on the ground and drag his back legs behind him. Wrigby's parents are hopeful. They bring him to the park so that he can see his friends in the hope that seeing them will make him work harder to walk again.

Please, please, please say some prayers for my friend Wrigby and his parents.

The surgery cost thousands of dollars, but thankfully Wrigby's parents had pet insurance. I'm scared to think of what might have happened to Wrigby if they didn't have insurance and couldn't pay for the surgery. My mom says that this is yet another example of why all pet owners should get pet insurance.

I met Santa!

Ok, Santa, so here is the deal. I want a Chuckit Flying Squirrel, some Vanilla Braided Ring Rawhides from White Dog Bone, a Nylon Turnout Coat from Foggy Mountain Dog Coats, lots of good treats, a new toothbrush, a new Bunny, and a new Duck. I also want Riverside Park to put in an official dog park. Oh, and a new puppy sister so that I can wrestle every day; it would be fun to have one of those. I'm sure there is more stuff, so I'll have my people talk to your people later this week.

Becoming a Bird Dog

A hawk ate a bird in the backyard and left a whole bunch of feathers for me to play with. I picked one up and pranced around like a reindeer in the backyard.

Fantastic fun! I was so happy!!! I know you are all very jealous!

I brought one of the feathers into the house to play with, but it took a few minutes before my mom realized that I had brought it in the house.

Suprisingly, my mom wasn't mad at all. She said something about a "bird day" coming up and how very proud she was that I liked the feather.

I don't know what this "bird day" means, but I'm looking forward to finding out!!!

Santa is coming to town!?!?!?!

My mom is excited because this guy named "Santa" is going to be at the park on Saturday for "Pet Photos with Santa." I don't really know who this "Santa" guy is, but she keeps talking about pictures and Christmas cards and holiday decorations. She's a little crazy sometimes, so I'll go along with it as long as I can sleep in and cuddle all morning. Wait a minute. What? Eleven in the morning?!?! You expect me to get up and go to the park and SMILE at eleven in the morning??? Seriously? I don't like to wake up until at least 12:30 p.m. Unless this Santa character is bringing cookies and lettuce and asparagus and carrots AND hotdogs, I'm just not getting out of bed. Eleven o'clock in the morning? You humans are crazy.

Laila'lympics

Every year, on the last day of the season, the local Riverside Pool opens its doors to the puppies of Federal Hill and Riverside. All of the neighborhood dogs train for weeks before this big event. I had some private training sessions in Outer Banks, so I was fully prepared for the challenge.

My competition:

And the answer is "YES! LAILA WINS!"

I've decided that my new name should be "Laila Phelps!"

This is me right after I won the gold medal. My mom was so proud!

I need to put this in a safe place so that it doesn't float away. Maybe I'll put it with my other gold medals from sports such as snuggling, couch jumping, digging, gymnastics floor exercises, contortion, diving, ball catching, rolling in dead birds, running, and cupcake eating. I do love cupcakes. And hey, if Michael Phelps can eat 12,000 calories a day, I don't thing a little thing like eating two dozen cupcakes is going to hurt my perfect little figure.

But before I could put it away, the paparazi wanted to snap a few pictures of my magnificent self. I indulged them, of course. Who am I to deny my fans?

After the pictures, I took one of my old bronze medals out for a few laps around the pool. I have so many medals, that I don't mind sharing this one with a few of my friends.

At the park

Such a lady-like pose!
Neighbors Todd and Vizsla Riley. They live across the street from us!

Riley and I found something good to sniff. Maybe a squirrel ran through here earlier today?

Making someone else's mom give me a drink of water. I'm such a princess!

I know it's time to go home when the sky looks beautiful like this!
