Caught-zza

My dad: "Laila! What is this mess?"

Me: "I don't know, dad. It looks like sawdust. Yummy, yummy sawdust."

My dad: "sawdust with Italian seasoning?"
(Uh, oh . . . I think he found me out)
My dad: "And, why is half of the pizza missing?"

(Busted!!)
Me: "It wasn't me! I swear! I've been framed! It could have been anyone.

"I mean, look at mom! She looks really guilty.

"No? Not her??

"Well, umm . . . maybe a squirrel broke in the house . . . ?!?!"

Tricks for Chicken

Ever since I was a baby, my mom has said that my name should be "will work for food." And you know what? She's right. I will do anything to get a piece of chicken.

Sometimes the smell of the amazing chicken overwhelms me, impeding my ability to concentrate on anything OTHER than the chicken.

Mmmm . . . chicken . . .

But, I promise that I'm really smart. Once I get started, I do my tricks as quickly as possible so that I can get my treat.

Quick, quick! Twirl, jump, spin, sit! Chicken, please!

Yo-Yo-Yogurt!!!

Oh, yogurt, I love you. Let me count the ways . . . .

One, you are so yummy. Two, you are so tasty.
Three, you come in a cute package.
Four, you fit in my mouth perfectly.
Five, you are deliciously creamy and have little pieces of strawberries inside.
Six, did I mention that you are yummy and tasty?
Yogurt is so delicious that I can never get enough!

Mom, can I have another?

Full and fat

While my mom and dad ate dinner in the other room, I helped myself to the last (and biggest) piece of grilled chicken that was left on the kitchen counter. I didn't have time to chew, so I ate it in one big piece like a bird . . .

gulp, gulp, gulp!

It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I'm not so sure.

Anyone have Mylanta?

Great Paw-ty!

Yesterday was my best friend Riley's 2nd Birthday, and we celebrated with an exciting (but looong) day!

When I woke up, my mom took me for a quick park trip in the morning before she started working. She worked until about 1 o'clock when--unexpectedly--my dad came home! Yay, Dad! He didn't come home to play, though. He had a midterm exam that he had to take on his computer for his grad class. Bummer!!!! Anyway, since he needed the house to be quiet for a few hours, my mom said that we needed to go for a little trip. I like trips, so this sounded like it was going to be fun. And, it sure was!

Since it was Riley's birthday, we needed to get him a present. We went to the local dog boutique down the street (literally three blocks away! Hurray for the city!) so that we could do some shopping. The girl (she is new) working in the shop fell in love with me right away. I showed her a few of my tricks: sit, down, high-five, paw, stand, stay, wait, up on hind legs, and my latest trick: twirl. I rocked my performance, and she gave me a treat. Score for me! My mom and I started shopping; I know that we were supposed to be shopping for Riley, but I just can't help myself sometimes, so I started picking out things that would be perfect for me: a new set of tennis balls, another Kong frisbee. My mom was not happy, so she put everything back and told me that we had to leave because I couldn't behave. We took a few laps around the block. After I had calmed down and was listening, we went back to the store. I was much more behaved the second time! Anyway, we bought a ChuckIt Flying Squirrel for Riley and a dog birthday cake. I thought it would have pictures of dogs on it, but it didn't. Apparently, there are people who make special cakes for dogs! What a great idea!

After we brought our loot back to the house, my mom said that it was time to go to the park, so we got our park gear ready: baggies, two balls, my Kong frisbee, water, a towel to wipe off slobber. After we put everything in my mom's nifty Outer Hound bag, my mom grabbed an extra set of keys. Hmmm . . . those keys look familiar. When we got out of the house, we started walking in the OPPOSITE direction of the park--to Riley's house! Wahooo!!!

When Riley and I got to the park, my mom took us to the lower field so that we could run without bothering the many moms pushing their babies in strollers. We found a nearly-dead kickball that someone had left on the field; it was the best toy we've played with in a long time. We ran, and ran, and chased, and wrestled, and ran, and ran, and ran. When we slowed down and started to eat sticks, my mom said it was time to head home. But, on the way out of the park, we spotted my good friend Kelsey! My mom let us off-leash again so that we could play with Kelsey. So, we ran, and ran, and chased, and wrestled, and ran, and ran. When my mom was sure that we were tired, we said goodbye to Kelsey and started heading home again. But then we ran into another dog friend who was hanging out with Fat Louie (a really, really, really fat black lab). I'm not a big fan of Fat Louie, but we started to play, so my mom let us off-leash AGAIN! And, again, we ran, and ran, and chased, and wrestled, and ran. I even caught the tail of a squirrel!!!! Riley and I could have played all day, but when Fat Louie started getting a little "frisky," my mom said it was time to head home--for real this time. She said that two-and-a-half hours was our cap for the day.

When my mom put on our leads, she realized that we had rolled in something deliciously stinky. So stinky that my mom had to put her nose under her shirt to breathe. I honestly don't know what her problem is; it's just perfume! Anyway, as soon as we got back to my house, my mom let us use the bathroom and drink some water in the backyard. But when we were done, we were marched right upstairs to get baths. Luckily for my mom, we were both exhausted and could barely move. Riley was first, and I was second. Riley was such a good boyfriend, and licked my head while my mom gave me my bath. I really wuff him.

After drying us off, my mom took Riley home to his house. He needed to have a nap before his big birthday party.

A few hours later, it was time for Riley's party. So many people came! There was tons of human food: beer, crackers, fruit, cheese, and brownies. There was also tons of dog treats too! Riley's aunt Kelly brought a dog biscuit in the shape of a martini, and I will never forget the heavenly, heavenly dog cake . . .
It was a big biscuit covered in frosting. Yummy!

To celebrate, we had candles, fun party hats, and sang happy birthday to Riley. Since Riley was the birthday boy, he has a green ribbon around his neck. The anticipation of the cake was almost more than Riley and I could stand! After cake, it was time for presents!
Finally, after two-and-a-half hours at the park, one bath, a two-and-a-half hour birthday party, eating half of a cake, and wrestling with Riley, it was time for bed. I was one exhausted Vizsla!
And I've been sleeping ever since . . .

Christmas Spirit Award!

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
My good friend Dennis gave me a Christmas Sprit Award because I met the real Santa. When I met him, I of course told Mr. Claus to be extra-specially nice to all of my friends this year, so remember to put out some milk and cookies on Christmas Eve for Santa to nibble on. And don't forget his hungry reindeer; they need lots of carrots!

Dennis said that there are a few rules for the Christmas Spirit Award. Here they are:

1. You must be a true Christmas lover to recieve this award (that's me!);
2. The person or dog or kitty or whoever to whom you give the award must link back to the person that gave you the award;
3. You must list five things that you love about Christmas, and if you can't limit it to five things, then keep going until you run out of space;
4. Pass the award along to as many people or dogs or kitties or whoever as you like. That can be one or fifty. It's up to you, but you must pass it on to at least one person or dog or kitty or whatever in order to keep the Christmas cheer going!
5. Finally, let your recipients know that you have tagged them by leaving them a comment.

I have to say that I like many, many things about Christmas. It is one of my favorite times of the year. Shame that it has to be so cold, or it would have been my MOST favorite. Here is a list of some of the reasons I love Christmas:

(1.) I love Christmas because it means family.
(2.) I love Christmas because my mom bakes tons of cookies.
(3.) I love that there is a tree in my living room! I haven't been able to find any squirrels in the tree (bummer!), but I love having a tree in my house! Yay! My mom and dad are the best parents in the world because invented the idea to put a tree in the house. Wait, you say that you have a tree, too? Well... ummm... that's a little embarrassing. Well, my parents are still the coolest even if they didn't invent the "putting a tree in the house" idea. I still love them.
(4.) I love Christmas because my mom stays home with me for two whole weeks (she says that she is "working from home", but we all know that she stays home to give me cuddles!).
(5.) I love Christmas lights on all of the houses. I try to catch the lights when they blink, but I'm never quick enough.
(6.) I love that my mom gets happy when she gets pretty cards from her friends and puts them on our mantle.
(7.) I love Christmas Cookies. I especially like helping my mom make them. She got smart and won't let me lick the bowls; she thinks I might get fat or upset my tummy. I told her that I don't care and that I little extra cushioning never hurt anyone, but she doesn't believe me. Oh well, I tried. Even though I only get to lick the spoons, it is still the best thing ever! Shhh... don't tell my dad about that one...
(8.) I love nice smells from things baking in the oven and from candles.
(9.) I love seeing happy people on my walks. Sometimes they are really cold happy people, but frozen happiness is still happiness.
(10.) I love that my mom and dad don't have homework during Christmas so they can spend extra cuddle time with me at night.
(11.) I love that my mom makes Apple Pies for Christmas. I'm the "official" taste-tester, and my mom lets me lick the spoon afterwards. Yum! Shhh... don't tell my dad about that one either...
(12.) I love seeing my human families! They give me lots of kisses and sneak delicious food to me when my dad isn't looking!
(13.) And finally, I love Santa. Please Santa, bring me a new flying squirrel. Also, Santa, can you please give me a new stuffed bunny. Or maybe a squirrel? I'd even settle for a stuffed raccoon. Remember Santa, I love you best!

In the spirit of giving, I would like to bestow this Holiday Spirit award to some of my very special friends:

First, I want to give this Christmas Spirit award to Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS) for taking care of all of the puppies and kitties who don't have humans to love them.

Second, I want to give this Christmas Spirit award to my mom's friend John. He is Ace's dad. Both a great writer and animal lover, John maintains the fantastic Ohmidog website. As for holiday cheer, John dressed up as Santa for one of the South Baltimore's "Pet Photos with Santa" events this year. Not only was it fun to get pictures with Santa, the proceeds benefited the Frankie Fund at BARCS to help pay for operations and recovery for all the sick puppies and kitties who don't have any humans. Thanks for spreading so much love during the holidays this year!

Third, I give this Christmas Spirit award to Fifty Fine Toes. I do not know her, but she must be a good Christmas mom because she puts her kiddies in Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve. Christmas is all about children and the magic and wonder that goes along with it, or so my mom says.

Fourth, I give this Christmas Spirit award to Amanda, her husband and Zoe the Vizsla. They cut down their very own Christmas tree this year! Loads of Holiday Spirit there!

Wishing you and your families a happy holiday!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi everyone! I hope all of you American puppies had a good Thanksgiving yesterday! My mom and dad took me to my human granddad's house for the day. He has a really fun house with lots of land, so I had a chance to really stretch my legs and do a little bird hunting in the trees and grass around the yard. The birdies weren't used to my superhero-smelling-and-stalking-and-running abilities, so they didn't stand a chance! I didn't catch any, but I did some great pointing. I found a bunch of birds that my mom didn't even see! She thought I was pointing at a stick! Silly mom. I also found my granddad's cats outside sunning themselves in the sun. I tried to play with them, but they weren't too friendly. So, I stalked them, too!

In the house was even better! All of the humans were so nice and wanted to pet and hug and kiss me. AND they gave me turkey! Ahh... heaven. I wasn't so sure of the little toddler Ethan at first because he wanted to chase me to give me a hug (or ride on me like a pony; we're not quite sure). But eventually I got used to him and sat next to him for a little bit. Big step for me!

I had so much fun at my human granddad's house! I hope I get to go back soon!

My addiction

So, as you may remember, I love sweets--especially when I'm not allowed to have them. Some of my many conquests include: cupcakes, vanilla ice cream, Rita's water ice, and most recently, oatmeal cookies!

My mom was baking cookies for an Orientation event that she was hosting at our house last week for her Law Journal. She told me that I couldn't have any until after the event was over, but they smelled soo good. My mom is a really good baker. While she was in the other room, I snuck into the kitchen to look at the cookies. I swear on my rawhide that I was only going to look at the cookies. I swear! But, while I was there, I figured that it would probably be ok to smell them a bit. Ok, and maybe I should touch them to see if they were still hot. Ok, and I should probably lick a small one to see if it was poisonous. I mean, I don't want my mom to get sick. Ok, and maybe it might be a good idea to take a tiny-teensie-little nibble out of the small one. I mean, I already licked it. Ok, so I should probably eat the little one. I mean, no one will want to eat it if I already took a nibble. Uh, oh. I accidentally licked the one beside it. Guess I should eat that one too. And whoops, I touched another one. Better eat that one. Oh, no! Look what I did! I accidentally knocked the cooling sheet onto the floor. My mom is so busy cleaning, so I should probably help her out with my super-vacuum-tongue. I was just trying to get the last little cookie off of the counter when the timer beeped to let my mom know that the last batch of cookies in the oven were ready. I hadn't been able to put away the cooling sheet yet, so I tried to hide it by sitting on it. She came into the kitchen to get the cookies out of the oven, but when she couldn't find the cookies, she looked very disappointed. I don't know why she was sad; I had worked really hard to clean up the cookies for her!

Cookout at Dave's House

Jeff's cousin Dave invited us to a cookout at his house today. I played frisbee, football, and catch; played with Guiness, Cash, and Toby; and even "permanently borrowed" a girl's hotdog.

Meet Cash the Great Dane.

Cupcake Thief...

Laila may look innocent, but the evidence is written all over her face!

Laila... the infamous cupcake snatcher

I thought I'd take a quick video of Laila being sweet and looking at the cupcakes, but by the time I had the camera ready...

. . . and I was so shocked that I spoke a bit of gibberish!
